Musical Theatre

Style: Musical Theatre, Jazz, Lyrical
Coupled with our Singing and Acting class or taken on its own, our Musical Theatre dance class has something to offer everyone no matter their ability.

Musical Theatre is an expressive style of dance, in which students will be be taught the musical theatre style movement that is used in stage production. The style exists to develop the versatile show dancer. Full to the brim with varied styles, including Musical Theatre, Cabaret and Commercial Dance. Basically, the essential elements to perform on a stage! Students will gain a sense of achievement, learning to express their selves creatively and effectively through the fun of dance! Kicks, leaps, turns, and rhythmic awareness are all explored, whilst props and accessories are used to assist the styles. The fully choreographed musical numbers add to the excitement and atmosphere of this unique performance-based style. Students will learn dance alongside singing & acting to popular musical theatre numbers where they will gain a sense of achievement learning to express their selves creatively and effectively through the fun of dance!

All participants will be able to perform in our high calibre annual shows performing extracts from the most popular theatre numbers. Recent numbers include, The Wizard of Oz, Mary Poppins, Aladdin, Phantom of the Opera, CATS, Shrek, Little Mermaid, Matilda, Alice in Wonderland plus many more!

Singing & Acting

Style: Pop & Musical Theatre In this class students will work on vocal technique, expression, projection, diction, harmonisation, ensemble, and solo performance. Children will also be taught improvisation, storytelling, characterisation, accents and acting through song. Combined with a Musical Theatre class, we aim for students to encompass all three disciplines of Dance, Singing and Acting. Our goal is to build confidence in performance and provide a platform for our students to develop technique, expression, and musical knowledge. Over the past term we have explored musicals such as, We Will Rock You, Legally Blonde JR, and The Sound of Music. We provide students with a broad repertoire of musicals from classic to current musicals, expanding students’ knowledge in musical genres, style, and history. If you have never sung before, do not worry! Most of our singing is in groups and nobody is ever put on the spot. Children do have the option to perform solo parts which can be supported with private coaching with one of our experienced teachers.

IDTA Ballet Private Coaching

Style: Graded IDTA Ballet. Ballet has a technique which is the foundation of all dance. This classical style of expressive movement has something to offer everyone with IDTA ballet coaching available for pleasure or for the more serious-minded. This classical style dates to the 17th century and the conventional steps, grace and fluidity of movement are still found in Ballet today. Choreographers across the world have been influenced by composers through the ages. At Class One we can support with private coaching and IDTA Examinations. Private coaching is highly sort after and needs to be booked well in advance through the Academy office / Academy Principal.

IDTA Freestyle Medalist

Style: Dance & Acro -  Freestyle is a popular form of dance in the UK today. It involves runs, spins, kicks and leaps, as well as many other diverse steps and movements with lots of arm and hand actions. The music can be fast and rhythmic or slow and sensuous, allowing dancers of all ages to use freedom of expression to enhance their style. In this class students will work towards their IDTA freestyle exams or just dance for fun. This is a great beginner class and stepping stone into competition.

Technique Class
 

Style: Jazz, Contempoary, Theatre, Lyrical. This Technique Class is suited for dancers who would like to enhance their theoretical knowledge and practical ability in relation to contemporary and jazz technique. This class is designed to improve a dancers range of motion, muscle flexibility and build core muscle strength through a variety of stretching and strengthening exercises. Dancers will also increase their awareness of how they can develop their expression through movement alone.
